​Kowhai Wanganui is owned and operated by Tony & Sharon Bishell. They have also owned Kowhai Taranaki since 2016.

Tony was born and raised in Taumaranui. After leaving school he did seasonal farm work. A keen interest in building saw him build his own home in the off-season. He enjoyed it so much he completed an apprenticeship and become a qualified carpenter.

​

Tony was a self-employed-builder for many years but after marrying Sharon, the pair changed focus and developed a successful painting and plastering business which they based in Christchurch after the 2011 Earthquakes

They returned North in 2016 where they took on Kowhai Taranaki, expanding into Wanganui in 2023.

​

These days they run a crew of 6. In line with best practice, they have a strong emphasis on safety with the team having achieved Site Safe Working at Heights as well as Ropes & Harnesses Certification.
